Ramshaw Meadows AbroniaAbronia alpina Description: Also known as Ramshaw Meadows Sand Verbena, this perennial herb stays very close to the ground, forming a small mat. The leaves are rounded and slightly fuzzy. The flowers are pink with white centers which form in clusters of up to five individual flowers. Habitat: This plant grows only in Ramshaw Meadows and Templeton Meadows in the southern portion of the Sierra Nevada range. It prefers gravelly areas between the forest and the meadow at elevations between around 8700 feet. Flowering Season: Flowers form during July and August. Comments: This plant is included in the California Native Plant Society Inventory of Rare and Endangered Plants. It is considered very rare and possibly threatened, primarily by the grazing of livestock. | |
