Asteraceae (Sunflower Family)



Description: Also known as Wedgeleaf Goldenbush and Desert Rock Goldenbush, this plant is a spreading shrub between six inches and three feet in height. It has spoon-shaped or spatula-shaped leaves and yellow flower clusters.

Habitat: Found growing on rocky outcrops, slopes, and cliffs between 500 and 6000 feet in elevation throughout the Mojave Desert and into Nevada, Arizona, the eastern Sierra Nevada, and northwestern Mexico.

Flowering Season: Flowers form from September to November.

Comments: There are two varieties of this species: spathulata and cuneata. The cuneata variety may be found at up to an elevation of nearly 8000 feet.
