ManzanitaArctostaphylos manzanita Description: Also known as Common Manzanita and Whiteleaf Manzanita, this shrub grows to a mature height of fifteen to twenty-two feet. The bark is reddish and the leaves are oval to oblong and pointed. Flowers are white, but sometimes pinkish, and they hang in drooping clusters. The fruits are deep red or brownish-red and they are edible. Habitat: This plant grows at elevations up to 5000 feet and in a variety of habitats. It is endemic to California. Flowering Season: Flowers form from January to March. Comments: There are six subspecies of A. manzanita. Sometimes this plant is listed as A. elegans. | |
