Aspen OnionAllium bisceptrum Description: Also known as Twin-Crest Onion this plant grows from bulbs and reaches a height of about eightteen inches. Flowers are pink to rose-purple and form in umbels containing 15 to 40 individual flowers. Habitat: Not likely to be found in Death Valley, but otherwise throughout the Great Basin above 6000 feet in elevation. This plant is generally found near a water source (spring, seep, or creek). Flowering Season: Flowers form from March through July. Comments: Onions are now members of the Alliaceae. Until recently they were regarded as members of the Liliaceae and sometimes as members of the Amaryllidaceae. |
