Fabaceae (Pea Family)



Description: Also known as Desert Senna this small shrub grows to a height of about three feet. This plant is completely leafless most of the year with grey-green, tangled branches bearing spines. Flowers are yellow with five petals. The fruit is a pod up to a couple inches in length.

Habitat: Desert Senna is native to the desert regions of Arizona, Nevada, eastern California, and northern Mexico at elevations between 500 and 5200 feet.

Flowering Season: Flowers form from March to July and sometimes during the fall following strong summer precipitation.

Comments: To germinate, soak seeds overnight and then place them next to a moist paper towel. Germination should occur withn 48 hours.
