Onagraceae (Evening Primrose Family)



Description: This annual herb grows to a height of about four inches. The leaves are narrow and the stems are reddish-brown. Both the leaves and the stems are sparsely covered with minute hairs. Flowers have four petals and are yellow. Sepals are recurved and the fruit is a capsule up to two inches in length.

Habitat: This plant grows in eastern California and western Nevada in Sagebrush Scrub, Yellow Pine Forest, Red Fir Forest, and Pinyon-Juniper Woodland plant communities.

Flowering Season: Flowers form during May and June.

Comments: Most members of the Evening Primrose Family produce large flowers. The flowers on this family member are rather tiny!
